As part of the statewide effort known as Texas Clear Lanes, the State Highway 199 project improves safety and mobility and reduces congestion, allowing for more reliable travel times on a key thoroughfare in northwest Tarrant County between Western Center Boulevard and Nine Mile Bridge Road in the Town of Lakeside and City of Azle.

Aguirre & Fields lead the design of the mainlanes for the construction of 3 miles of this urban/rural freeway section from Hanger Cutoff Road to Nine Mile Bridge Road.  The design included a 4-lane to 6-lane divided freeway to accommodate the ultimate section consisting of a divided freeway with a center barrier. The existing mainlanes were reconstructed and new mainlanes added in areas that did not have existing mainlanes.

Our final deliverable was completed on schedule, six months after NTP.  At submittal, the letting was shifted six months out to accommodate a new interchange at Western Center Boulevard, new ITS, and to allow for environmental clearance.  The project bid came in $10 million under the estimate of $57 million. There were no Change Orders and only two RFIs during construction.
