Addressing the rapid growth in the communities of North Austin, this 4.6-mile project added three lanes to the existing facilities in each direction from FM 1431 in Cedar Park to San Gabriel Parkway in Leander.
Aguirre & Fields served as Engineer of Record (EOR) for three bridges and two retaining walls (drilled shaft and soil nail system) at Scottsdale Drive. Due to the limited roadway geometry, the roadway alignment was partially curved at the north and southbound turnaround bridges at Scottsdale Drive Underpass. Aguirre & Fields utilized a unique abutment modification and custom slab overhang design to avoid increasing the width of the bridge structures, which reduced the overall bridge cost.
Our team also served as the EOR for all structural elements for stormwater detention ponds, splitter boxes, and culvert modifications and our structural engineering team provided retaining wall design for several areas of the shared use path running parallel to 183A. Our team also reviewed bridge details for several spans over the proposed managed lanes and was responsible for on-site construction support and coordination for structure-related issues.
This $76 million Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA) project created nearly five miles of new tolled mainlanes and included a total of 14 new bridges, two new intersections, frontage road improvements, associated utilities, electronic toll facilities, and a shared-use path.
